Adin Returns to Yogya Annual Art #10 with a Solo Exhibition

Toyol Gallery is yet again exhibiting at Yogya Annual Art (YAA) without fail! This year, our Yogyakarta-based artist, Adin Wiedyardini, returns to Sangkring Art Space for another solo exhibition at its annual art exhibition since 2015.

Yogyakarta has long been one of Indonesia’s most dynamic contemporary art hubs, with handfuls of artists, collectives, and students at the heart of its art scene. The city could credit this to it being home to the Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Indonesia’s oldest art college which has birthed Indonesia’s celebrated artists. Adin Wiedyardini too, is an alumni of the college.

Adin’s mini solo exhibition at Yogya Annual Art will showcase pieces from her series “The Wild Within”. It trails a narrative of an unsevered connection between humans and nature, between consciousness and instinct. A young girl in innocent wonder and serene co-existence with other creatures in the wild, Adin paints reflections not only of tangible nature in our outside world, but also an internal sensibility innate to humans.

Adin was brought up in Wonosobo, a regency in Central Java. The Javanese word “wonosobo” translates to “the gathering place in the forest”. Growing up in a small town on a plateau slipped in between mountains, it is no mystery as to what prompted Adin’s imagination of the world clearly envisioned in her paintings. With her works, she reminds herself of the cool air, blue skies, and rice fields from her hometown – of a harmony with nature not easily founded in the urbanised city that she now resides in.

We have more new additions to our artist’s collection: art prints and an exciting new sculpture of Adin’s piece titled “Cozy Afternoon"! These art prints and sculpture will be available for purchase and viewing at the exhibition.
