Welcoming Lingmuki!
Born in Nanjing, China, Lin Ling, otherwise referred to as Lingmuki, is an artist and designer based in Hong Kong. Well-known for her imaginary character and persona “Little Muki”, Ling recognises her as a metaphor of real life. Little Muki “is human but sometimes also an object. She has some freedom and power but, still, she is in another’s “game”.
Ling’s artworks take inspiration from childhood and in particular, a fishing game that was beloved by her, and popular amongst those growing up in Hong Kong. The main character in her artwork is indicative of this, with the image of a fish being a key motif throughout. Working with a range of mediums, Ling not only incorporates oil paint and traditional Chinese painting in her art pieces, but also digital drawing, watercolor, and three dimensional figurines.
Studying in Hong Kong, Ling holds a Bachelor of Arts from the Hong Kong Baptist University Academy of Visual Arts, as well as a Master of Design from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design. To expand on her artistic and cultural perspectives, Lingmuki has also furthered her studies by pursuing The Arts in Japan and Italy.
Over the years, Ling has made a name for herself, winning multiple awards including the International Council of Visual Arts Award, the Asian Youth Art and Design Alliance, and the Global Chinese Art Design Award. Her creative work has been recognised and featured throughout various publications, including Obscura Magazine, ELLE, AucArt and HK ARTION.
