Artist in Focus: Jang Onanong

A self-taught artist and former graphic designer from Bangkok, Thailand,  Onanong works with various media such as drawing, painting, and sculpture. She intrigues her audiences and takes them on a magical journey with her instantly recognisable and inviting character “Jang”.

Audiences view "Jang" through various lenses: for instance, at the “MEIHUA” solo exhibition, Onanong fused cultural and historical elements to present a modern and playful "Jang" who simultaneously exists in the past, present, and future.
Onanong's artistic inspirations, as seen through her works, finds roots in her familial bonds, her childhood and significant moments in life.
She has held many exhibitions nationally and internationally including Divas, RCB Artery, Bangkok (2018); Balance, Chamchuri Art Gallery, Bangkok (2017); Unknown Asian Art Exchange, Osaka, Japan (2016); Suffer: Sweet, Li-bra-ly café, The Jam Factory, Bangkok (2016); Live Painting and Artist Talk, Universitas Negori Jakarta, Jakarta, Indonesia (2015); Imperfection, People Gallery, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Bangkok (2015).
