Group Exhibitions “Days of Domesticity” 29/8 - 9/9, “Days of Wilderness” 13/9-23/9 📍 54 Sai Street, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

Artist in Focus: Alodia Yap

Born at the intersection of Chinese and Indonesian cultures, Alodia Yap’s (b.1995) artwork creates narratives inspired from her mundane life. Adorned with wild plants sprouting from their bodies, Yap’s signature feminine figures builds bridges between the East and West, and invites viewers to explore universal themes of the human experience.

Viewing scars less as flaws to conceal but more as symbols of resilience and transformation, Yap’s artwork presents layered meanings of suffering, liberation, and enlightenment.
Sparking dialogue about self-identity, spirituality, and humanity's connection to nature, Yap represents a generation of artists that fearlessly explores the boundaries of emotions, religion, and culture without fear of societal censorship.

Toyol will showcase Alodia Yap’s works during Days of Wilderness (13–23 Sep 2024), our group exhibition at Major Pop in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong.
