Artist in Focus: Shishidomia

Shishidomia is a Japanese artist with strong Latin American roots. Her childhood swayed within the beauty and richness of Japanese and Colombian cultures; a mixture of flavors and colors that awoke a true passion for art and its power to convey deep social and personal feelings.

This effervescent drive led to her enrollment at the prestigious Tokyo Metropolitan Senior High School of Fine Arts, which culminated in her undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Textile Art & Design at Tama Art University in Tokyo, Japan.

While still in college, she was awarded The Barbara Shapiro Award for excellence by the New Beat International textile art competition in Oaxaca, Mexico. Shortly after graduation, she moved to the US to pursue a career as a full-time artist.

Toyol will showcase Shishidomia’s works during Days of Wilderness (13–23 Sep 2024), our group exhibition at Major Pop in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong.
